Desert Morning

What Maxime loves about his new school are the number of outings and cool things they get to do. They go to a city park every Saturday and this morning they organized a trip to the desert. I was lucky enough to be able to accompany them.
We drove 30 minutes outside of Dubai in school buses. Once we were off the highway and a little ways into the desert, we were transferred to 4x4s that took us to the desert camp. The camp was inside a dune circle. It had tents and different areas set up for the kid's activities: camel riding, henna tatoos, dress up, sand surfing and of course lunch. One of the children's father gave a short presentation on dates and had samples to taste. He works for Bateel, a Saudi date producer. Saudi dates are supposedly the best, and those that grow on Mecca soil (sand?) are the most prized by Muslims all over the world. After tasting them - I can see why!
First you learn to ride a camel...
...then you get a scorpion tatoo and bedouin headdress and voila, you're Cheik Maxime. Posted by Picasa

Wow!! Maxime is so cute in that picture! He looks like he's really getting into life in the desert. It's so great to see the boys have already got friends to play with. Hope you're meeting people too, it sounds like you're having a great time.
Still miss you a lot, just got back from choir and it's not the same!
Keep posting, I love reading about your adventures!

Thanks for the family photos, great to see the kids.

How are the locals in Dubai reacting to the current kerfuffle in the US concerning DP World taking over US seaports?

I am close by today in Kuwait, but unfortunately was unable to engineer a suitable layover in Dubai to come see you guys. Hoping I can do better on some future trip here. I loved the following entry in today's Kuwait Times, National News section:

WOMAN FALLS DURING ESCAPE

A Sri Lankan woman fell from
the seventh floor of a building
in Mahboula. She was trying
to abseil down the building using
a rope in order to escape from
the flat. However, the rope snagged
and she fell. The woman was
transferred to Adan hospital
with serious injuries.

Escape?! This raises questions on so many levels...

It looks like the boys really got into Madri gras. We went to Metairie to some Parades, we brought Jade and Nadia. They all had a blast catching beads. Its great to see pics of the boys and what about mom and dad?????

Hi!
Crazy world indeed. Anyway, I watched Syriana and I have to say that I understood absolutely nothing, so maybe censoring the film could lead to a better understanding of the plot? Who knows.
Just to say you've taken away the comments option, is that intentional?
Miss you lots,
